It all started with the dress. My outfits always have strong elements of sustainability, the unique result that can be achieved by ‘upcycle, recycle, rewear’ has always been a passion for me. This outfit I’m particularly delighted by the elegant feminine look, whilst also being approx 98% upcycled and recycled components. The dress is an authentic 1970s vintage maxi, but with the pink colour and poppy print so current in modern fashion. I was particularly inspired seeing Duchess Sophie in the UK at this year’s Royal Ascot wearing a maxi dress completely covered in poppy flowers. My hat is a unique example of upcycling, made from the fabric of a ‘fast fashion’ dress destined for landfill, providing the perfect crisp white colouring to complement the dress. The same fabric also being used to hand make each individual poppy flower perfectly matched to the pattern on the dress. The centre of each poppy being an upcycled bead from a vintage necklace sourced from a local op shop. Vintage round handbag to complement the overall circular look, and classic white pumps already in my collection.
