‘Pelo Loco’ (crazy hair) is inspired by a Matthew Taylor exhibition of masks at the Bungendore Woodworks Gallery. (see pics) It took many developmental sketches to get to the final design. Then came figuring out the technical challenges to make a precise pattern for the chosen material. Two crinolines were used, one silver, one black (traditionally used for corset making). They were solder cut, joined and layered to look like untamed hair. Fine filaments of peacock herl were added to give a ‘wild’ look as well as giving movement. ‘Pelo Loco’ wants to challenge the norms of millinery, be bold, fun and original.
