Japan is home to Delta Blues which won the Cup back in 2006 for Yasunari Iwata and Katsuhiko Sumii.

The Cup will find its way to Cambridge, breeders of 14 Melbourne Cup winners. Cambridge, known as the "Town of Champions" is renowned for producing equine and sporting athletes. New Zealand has bred 44 Melbourne Cup winners in 162 years.

This year marks 30 years that Irishmen, Dermot Weld and Mick Kinane brought Vintage Crop to Australia to become the first Internationally trained winner of a Melbourne Cup. More recently, Joseph O'Brien has won the Cup in recent years with Rekindling and Twilight Payment.

Known for its harbours, marinas and its racecourse, Deauville in France is home to the 2010 and 2011 Melbourne Cup winners in Americain and Dunaden.
