What happened in Port Augusta
The coveted trophy visited Port Augusta with dual Melbourne Cup-winning jockey and 2023 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour Ambassador John Letts accompanying the Cup on its journey.
The People’s Cup began its tour of Port Augusta with The Cup attending a community Golf competition at the Port Augusta Golf Club. Locals enjoyed a day of golf before returning to the Club house for an evening to celebrate sports and have their photo taken with this year’s Lexus Melbourne Cup trophy.
A Q&A was also conducted where lucky guests were invited to hear from racing Legend John Letts as he shared his favourite racing memories and a special presentation from the VRC was made.
On Sunday, the Cup attended the City of Port Augusta Cup to celebrate racing, where the community got the chance to get up close for a once-in-a-life-time opportunity with this year’s trophy.
Port Augusta is a part of the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour National Sweep, which sees 24 rural and regional Cup Tour destinations across Australia allocated a barrier for the 2023 Lexus Melbourne Cup.
