What happened in Darwin

The People’s Cup was accompanied by Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour Ambassador Wayne Harris on its tour of Darwin. The trophy began its journey at Litchfield National Park to take in some of its iconic sights before stopping into the Humpty Doo Pub for a photo opportunity with some lucky locals. In the evening, the Cup attended a small event at the Darwin Trailer Boat Club where locals had a photo opportunity with the coveted trophy.

The next day, the Cup attended a special Lexus Melbourne Cup morning tea with Regis Aged Care residents before watching the iconic Mindil Beach sunset. The iconic trophy then attended an event hosted by Lexus of Darwin where guests enjoyed a night celebrating racing.

On the final day of its Darwin trip, the Cup spent the day with Parap Primary School. Students heard about the history of the Lexus Melbourne Cup and got up close with the trophy before it left to tour Crocosaurus Cove. Finally, the coveted trophy finished its tour of Darwin at the Top End Racing Awards Night with racing enthusiasts gathering to celebrate and get up close with the 18-carat-gold trophy.
