We traveled to Japan earlier this year and I found this amazing little vintage kimono shop in Kyoto that sold all pre-loved kimonos and accessories. I loved the silhouette and instantly knew I wanted to create an outfit for Spring Carnival. I used the original silk lining to create a belt at the back gathering the material to create a pleated feature. The beautiful long sleeves are complimented by the dramatic wide pants and both pieces move perfectly together when you walk. I knew I wanted a Japanese inspired headpiece to work with the outfit but I didn't know what, until I saw this piece by Hat Ensemble, instantly it reminded me of the Cherry Blossoms we had been chasing throughout our whole trip and were lucky enough to see bloom during our time in Japan. The curve of the headpiece mimics not only Cherry Blossoms in the wind but also the movement of the kimono and pants. A round textured bag with bamboo handles also pays tribute to Japan and the origin of the kimono, mixing the tan and white perfectly, while keeping accessories to a minimum with a simple light pink flower earring to match but not detract from the Cherry Blossom headpiece.
