Double the Glamour: Two New Fashions on the Field Competitions This Spring!

The spring racing season is fast approaching, and with it, two exciting opportunities to showcase your race day style!

We’re excited to announce the Spring Fashions on the Field Best Dressed and Best Suited competitions

You can enter on Crown Makybe Diva Stakes Day (September 13th) and TAB Turnbull Stakes Day (October 4th), the first two Group 1 race days of the season at Flemington. It's time to flaunt your style and compete to get yourself fast-tracked into the Crown Oaks Day daily final!

How to Enter: It's super easy!

  1. Get your outfit ready! Prepare your look for either the Best Dressed or Best Suited categories.

  2. Head to the Fashions on the Field entry area on either of the two race days to register.

  3. Judges will vote on a series of promenades, finals and a daily final to determine the winner to compete in the Crown Oaks Day daily final.

Best Dressed Tips to Impress the Judges

Want to catch the judges’ attention and increase your chances of winning? Here’s what you need to know:

  • Embrace Bold Colours and Patterns: Stand out from the crowd by embracing striking colours or unique patterns. Whether it’s a vibrant floral print (Florals for Spring?!) or a powerful colour block, don’t be afraid to make a statement.

  • Millinery: The hat or fascinator can make or break your look, so make sure it’s on point! Whether you prefer a timeless classic or a modern twist, the right millinery can elevate your entire ensemble. Remember, millinery is an important part of the eligibility criteria, so make sure it complements your outfit.

  • Tailoring: Fit is key! A well-tailored outfit can create a polished, professional appearance that’s sure to impress. Focus on the cut and structure of your attire for the perfect fit.

  • Accessories: Small details can make a huge difference. Incorporate accessories that complement your look. Whether it’s a statement necklace, elegant clutch, or a stylish watch, these touches add a sophisticated flair.

To be eligible to enter the Best Dressed Competition, you must fulfil and agree to abide by the criteria specified in the Competition Terms and Conditions, which includes (but is not limited to) the following: 

  • Must be 18 years of age or more as at the day of competition, and in attendance of the competition.
  • Must not be an employee of the Promoter, its associated companies/subsidiaries or agencies associated with this Promotion.
  • Must not be immediate family or members of the same household of persons.
  • Must not be dressed or styled by a designer or milliner.
  • Must not be commercially promoting a brand, store, designer or and other commercial enterprise. 

Our judges consider the following criteria when selecting finalists: 

  • The originality of the outfit. Make the outfit your own and show us how your ensemble expresses your personality!
  • The appropriateness of the outfit for the Fashions on the Field Competition – Best Dressed, on Crown Makybe Diva Stakes Day or TAB Turnbull Stakes Day 2025.
  • The understanding and display of style, fashion trends and individuality, use inspiration from current trends to accentuate your own individuality!
  • Use of millinery including hats, fascinators, head bands, tiaras, flower laurels, hair scarves.
  • Attention to detail, including accessories: ties, pocket squares, jewellery, bag and shoes.
  • Grooming and deportment, hair, make-up and grooming can tie your entry together. 
  • How the entire outfit is complementary and fits together. Make sure all elements of you outfit work together.
  • Suitability of the outfit for a daytime, race day event.
  • National Dress will be accepted if the above selection criteria is met.

Best Suited Tips to Stand Out:

If you're opting for the Best Suited Competition and you're looking to impress, here are the key elements to focus on:

  • Embrace Bold Colours and Patterns: Just like in the Best Dressed category, don’t shy away from bold colours or unique patterns. A striking tie, pocket square, or patterned suit will make you stand out. 

  • Millinery: A standout hat is often the highlight of any racing outfit, even in the Best Suited category. Make sure you incorporate a hat or piece of millinery into your ensemble. This should complement your suit and adds an extra flair to your look. Millinery is also an important part of the eligibility criteria, so ensure it’s part of your ensemble.

  • Tailoring: A sharp, well-tailored suit is the foundation of a winning look. Make sure your suit fits perfectly to highlight your style and create a polished, professional appearance.

  • Accessories: Don’t forget the accessories! A stylish watch, cufflinks, or a sleek tie bar can add a sophisticated touch to your outfit. The details matter.
