Flemington set for a spectacular autumn

Flemington’s Racing Spectacular returns in 2023 with three sensational Flemington autumn race days set to showcase the best athletes both human and horse, fabulous flavours and family fun.

The Victoria Racing Club’s headline festival outside of the Melbourne Cup Carnival will feature Australian Guineas Day on 4 March, Super Saturday on 11 March and the brand-new TAB Australian Cup Day on 25 March.

Tickets for all Flemington Racing Spectacular race days are now on sale.

The Flemington Fareground

The March race meetings see the return of the Flemington Fareground with the west end of the Front Lawn transforming into a fun-filled precinct fit for the young and the young at heart.

A host of family friendly activities will be on offer for Phar Lap Club members including Wild Action Zoo where children can get up close and personal with some furry and scaly animals including snakes, wombats and koalas.

Kids can also get their hands dirty with a special seed planting activation, alongside an assortment of lawn games and carnival rides to round out the family fun.

The Food

Racegoers can enjoy delicious food offerings from some of Melbourne’s best with food trucks dishing out treats from Mary and a Little Lamb, OG Burgers and Gradi at Crown Melbourne.

An assortment of hidden delights will be waiting in the Flemington Fareground including the Furphy Truck, a selection of exclusive wine tastings and the Country Women’s Assocation will be serving up delicious baked goods and home-made condiments.

To round out the food offering Atlas Dining’s Charlie Carrington will be curating the menu for the Flemington Racing Spectacular Long Lunch on Wednesday 1 March with a selection of dishes highlighted across all three race days in various dining venues.

The Racing

On the track Australian Guineas Day will see the return of spring’s star three-year olds for the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m).

The racing action will continue into the next weekend with the Group 1 Yulong Stud Newmarket Handicap (1200m) celebrating 150 years on Super Saturday.

And the Flemington Racing Spectacular will finish on a high with the new TAB Australian Cup Day  where a field of first-class gallopers will be running for record prizemoney in the Group 1 TAB Australian Cup (2000m) which is now worth $3 million.

The Roy Higgins Quality (2600m) will be another highlight on the card as runners will be competing for a golden ticket into the Lexus Melbourne Cup for the first time. Several contenders who competed in last year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival are likely to line up including promising stayers White Marlin and Soulcombe.

VRC Chief Executive Officer Steve Rosich said he was looking forward to welcoming racegoers back to Flemington for the Club’s biggest month of racing outside the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

“March is set to be a bumper month for racegoers at Flemington with three fantastic Group 1 race days,” Mr Rosich said.

“The stars of the turf like Roch 'N' Horse and Montefilia are set to line up and the excitement doesn’t end at the winning post, with exceptional entertainment, food offerings and family fun rounding out the Flemington Racing Spectacular experience.”

The Flemington Race Day Pass

Racegoers wanting to make the most of this the racing at Headquarters can secure a Flemington Race Day Pass for only $225 which includes General Admission entry to all remaining 20 race days at Flemington in 2023 including the iconic Melbourne Cup Carnival. The Flemington Race Day Pass has been re-introduced for 2023 and is a cost-effective way of accessing the public areas for the rest of this calendar year and will be available for purchase this week.
