Public Transport

We recommend travelling to Flemington by train to Flemington Racecourse station and entering via Train Gate Entry.  

Metro trains run directly between Flinders Street, Southern Cross Station and Flemington Racecourse on all race days, unless otherwise advised by the VRC or Public Transport Victoria.

Travelling by Train

Getting To Flemington

Between 8.40 AM and 1.28 PM, trains departing from Flinders Street (Platforms 8 & 9) will run express to Flemington Racecourse, running every 6 minutes.

Between 8.53 AM and 1.33 PM, trains departing from Southern Cross (Platform 8) will run to Flemington Racecourse, stopping at North Melbourne only, running every 10 minutes.

Between 1.38 PM and 2.58 PM, trains departing from Flinders Street Station (Platforms 8 & 9) will stop at Southern Cross and North Melbourne, then through to Flemington Racecourse.


Getting Home

Between 3.10 PM and 9.02 PM, trains departing from Flemington Racecourse (Platforms 1 & 2) will run to Flinders Street, stopping at North Melbourne and Southern Cross running every 4 minutes.

Between 11.08 AM and 4.57 PM, trains departing from Flinders Street (Platforms 8 & 9) will run to Flemington Racecourse, stopping at Southern Cross and North Melbourne, running every 6 minutes.


Getting Home

Between 11.33 AM and 2.16 PM, services run express to Flinders Street Station.

Between 2.19 PM and 9.07 PM, trains departing from Flemington Racecourse (Platforms 1 & 2) will run to Flinders Street, stopping at North Melbourne and Southern Cross running every 5 minutes.

Between 10.33 AM and 1.33 PM, trains departing from Southern Cross (Platform 8) will run to Flemington Racecourse, stopping at North Melbourne only, running every 10 minutes.

Between 1.38 PM and 4.48 PM, services stopping at Southern Cross and North Melbourne, then through to Flemington Racecourse.


Getting Home

Between 5.18 PM and 9.02 PM, trains departing from Flemington Racecourse (Platforms 1 & 2) will run to Flinders Street, stopping at North Melbourne and Southern Cross running every 4 minutes.

Tram

Catch the No. 57 West Maribyrnong tram from the corner of Elizabeth Street and Flinders Street and hop off at Flemington Drive (Stop 30), located right outside the main gate to the racecourse.

Lexus Melbourne Cup Day: 8.30 AM - 8:45 PM

Crown Oaks Day: 10.30 AM - 9.30 PM

TAB Champions Stakes Day: 10.30 AM - 9.00 PM

Bus

If you are organising a private charter, entry to the racecourse is via Smithfield Road only.

Complimentary Shuttle Service (Melbourne Cup Carnival Only)

For Melbourne Cup Carnival Days only, complimentary shuttle services for patrons will run from the Main Taxi Rank direct to Southern Cross Station.

Lexus Melbourne Cup Day: 3.30 PM - 8.00 PM

Crown Oaks Day: 4.00 PM - 8.00 PM

On Crown Oaks Day only, some shuttles will run direct to Crown in the CBD. The remaining shuttle services will continue to run to Southern Cross Station.

TAB Champions Stakes Day: 4.30 PM - 8.30 PM

Rideshare Drop-Off

Patrons arriving by rideshare can be dropped off at the following locations:

  • Main Rank via Flemington Drive

  • Royal Melbourne Showgrounds via Gate 5 off Langs Road

Patrons intending to use rideshare services to exit the precinct can be picked up from the following locations:

  • Main Rank via Flemington Drive

  • Riverbank Rank via Lynches Bridge (Melbourne Cup Carnival only)

Taxi

Patrons arriving by taxi can be dropped off at the following locations:

  • Main Rank via Flemington Drive

  • Royal Melbourne Showgrounds via Gate 5 off Langs Road

Patrons intending to use taxi services to exit the precinct can be picked up from the following locations:

  • Main Rank via Flemington Drive

  • Riverbank Rank via Lynches Bridge (Melbourne Cup Carnival only)

  • Royal Melbourne Showgrounds Rank via Gate 5 off Langs Road

Planning to drive?

  • Allocated Annual Reserved Car Sites and Ranks 1–4 can be accessed via Members Drive only.

  • The Members Unreserved Car Park begins from Row 15 and is accessible via Flemington Drive. Traffic management staff will be on hand on race days to guide all unreserved car park holders.

  • Access to the Nursery Car Park is via Members Drive off Epsom Road only.

  • Access to the Rails Car Park is via Flemington Drive only. Vehicles for the Rails Car Park should enter Flemington Drive in the left lane.

  • Please note: Unreserved car parking is subject to availability. If spaces are full, members will be directed to the nearest available parking area.

Public Parking for the 2026 Melbourne Cup Carnival will be provided next to Flemington Racecourse at the neighbouring Royal Melbourne Showgrounds. Public parking is via gate 4 on Langs Road, $30 card only.

Other Transport

Catch a train to Newmarket station (Craigieburn line) and then either walk (10 minutes) or take the No. 57 tram to Flemington Drive (stop 30).

All train services are wheelchair accessible and passengers who need help boarding trains should wait on the platform near the front of the train.
