Moroney after Cup redemption

Mike Moroney is crystal clear with his wish list for last year's Lexus Melbourne Cup runner-up Emissary this spring.

As reported by Tim Yeatman on Racing.com, having defeated all bar Gold Trip in the 2022 Cup, the trans-Tasman horseman is again setting the bar high for his talented stayer as he chases another success in 'the race that stops a nation'.

"We're just after a very small double, the Caulfield-Melbourne Cup double," Moroney quipped.

The Geelong Cup winner has returned in great order and has impressed at three home-track Flemington jumpouts ahead of a spring kick-off.

"He had another jumpout (cerise silks) over 1200m at Flemington this morning and was good," Moroney said.

"He's been pretty slow maturing and he's six months behind as well (Northern-hemisphere bred), so he really should be at his peak this time around."

Moroney plans to start Emissary's Cup bid in the Group 1 PFD Food Services Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Sofitel Girls' Day Out Saturday, 16 September.
