Point of Law earns Golden Ticket into the 2026 Lexus Melbourne Cup

Trained by Victoria's leading trainer, Ciaron Maher, Point of Law produced a strong staying performance under a confident ride from Ethan Brown, beating home Joseph O'Brien duo Small Fry and Omni Man. The victory has propelled the gelding into favouritism for the Lexus Melbourne Cup which will be run in 13 days at Flemington.

Featuring one of the strongest fields in its long history, the 2026 Geelong Cup proved to be another memorable edition in only its second year as a Lexus Melbourne Cup Golden Ticket race.

A proven pathway to the Lexus Melbourne Cup, the Geelong Cup has previously been won by eventual Melbourne Cup champions including Media Puzzle, Dunaden and Americain.

The race continues to strengthen its reputation as a key lead-up for connections seeking a place in Australia's most prestigious staying contest.

Connections will make their final bid for a Lexus Melbourne Cup spot this weekend, with Flemington hosting the Cox Plate and Moonee Valley Gold Cup for the first time.
