Statement by VRC Chairman Neil Wilson: Victoria Racing Club welcomes the release of the roadmap to reopen

19 September 2021 Written by VRC

The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) acknowledges the release of the Victorian Government’s roadmap to reopening, announced by the Premier today, and the importance of this announcement to our community.

The 80 per cent vaccination target by 5 November is an important milestone for our community to aim for so that business and community activities can resume.

The 80 per cent target also gives the VRC confidence to continue to plan for crowds across the 2021 Melbourne Cup Carnival, which is a major event for Victoria and the nation.

Cup Week 2021 kicks off on Saturday 30 October with Penfolds Victoria Derby Day, ‘the race that stops a nation’, the Lexus Melbourne Cup, taking place on the first Tuesday of November, followed by Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday 4 November and Mackinnon Stakes Day on Saturday 6 November.

The VRC team will continue to work closely with the Victorian Government to understand the implications for hosting a crowd at some or all four days of the 2021 Melbourne Cup Carnival and ensure that we are prepared for all potential scenarios.
