Stokes aiming for winter Perfection

17 June 2025 Written by Craig Brennan – Racing And Sports

Phillip Stokes and the connections of Twin Perfection are hoping for some winter magic at Flemington.

It has been a while between drinks for the connections of Twin Perfection, but they are hoping to remedy that at Flemington.

The Funky Farm Sprint over 1100m on Saturday will be Twin Perfection's third outing back from a break as he aims to end a 15-month winless streak.

Twin Perfection made his return with a pleasing second to Oak Hill over 1000m on May 3 at Caulfield before finding the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on May 31 a shade beyond at his most recent outing.

Trainer Phillip Stokes is hoping Saturday's contest will be a shade easier, although Recommendation and Cleo Cat, who both contested the Bel Esprit Stakes are slated to line up on Saturday.

Stokes was delighted to see Niance, an impressive winner of the Bel Esprit Stakes, not among entries for Saturday's contest.

Twin Perfection has not been successful since scoring at Ballarat last March which followed a Caulfield win over 1100 metres a month prior.

Stokes said Twin Perfection was a 'winter grade sprinter' who should not be disadvantaged at his first outing down the Flemington straight.

"We've got no plans with him at this stage other to run him on Saturday," Stokes said.

"He probably found it a bit rich in that Stakes the other day. He tried hard but probably wasn't good enough, so we'll drop him back in grade on Saturday.

"He's a winter horse and this is a race that may suit.

"It's his first time down the straight. He should be OK on it and if he goes OK, it may open things up a little if he runs well down there.

"It's a race that keeps him ticking over, and hopefully it keeps him away from some of the better ones racing through the winter."
