Victoria Racing Club and Herald Sun combine to thank frontline workers

25 October 2021 Written by VRC

To recognise their incredible efforts during the pandemic, the Herald Sun and the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) are giving away 10 double passes to frontline workers for Lexus Melbourne Cup Day.

Victoria Racing Club Chairman Neil Wilson said the club was grateful to be in a position to host crowds during Cup Week starting with Penfolds Victoria Derby Day this Saturday, and wanted to acknowledge the workers that have been on the frontline of the pandemic.

“We are so grateful to all frontline workers who have been working tirelessly over the past 18 months to care for our community,” Mr Wilson said.

“This is a small gesture of our thanks to them.

“With significantly smaller Cup Week crowds these really are the golden tickets to the ‘race that stops a nation’™ – and one that this year, will herald the re-start of our city.

“I would encourage all frontline workers, whether you’re a doctor, a carer or paramedic, to enter the competition.”

Melbourne nurses Mad Cookesley and Leana Douglas said they would be entering the competition and encouraging other frontline workers to enter too.

“I’ve been lucky enough to attend the Melbourne Cup Carnival as a VRC member in previous years,” Miss Cookesley said.

“It’s so exciting that the club can host racegoers at Flemington this Cup Week, and even better than frontline workers can win their way in.

“We’ve been working so hard, and there are still tough times ahead, but enjoying a break with a day out at the Lexus Melbourne Cup sounds pretty good to me!”

Each double pass includes two reserved seats in the lawn stand, a picnic hamper for two and a racebook valued at $380.
