Victoria Racing Club continues its partnership with Melbourne Cup Carnival Ambassador Delta Goodrem

The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) today announced ARIA award winner and multi-platinum singer songwriter Delta Goodrem will return as a 2022 Melbourne Cup Carnival Ambassador.

One of Australia’s highest selling musicians, Delta has a long history with the VRC, performing the Australian National Anthem in the Mounting Yard ahead of the Melbourne Cup in 2007 and returning for the last two years on Lexus Melbourne Cup Day as a VRC Ambassador to perform a medley of power ballads to an audience of more than 750 million worldwide.

As part of her role this year, Delta will be trackside on Lexus Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 1 November, as well as entertain VRC members and guests at the VRC Kennedy Oaks Club Lunch on Wednesday 2 November with a special performance. 

“The liveliness and vibrance the carnival brings to Melbourne is something incredibly unique to the city and with full crowds welcomed back this year, Cup Week gives us an opportunity to reignite the spark of everything the Melbourne Cup Carnival stands for,” Ms Goodrem said.

“I love that the Melbourne Cup Carnival gives people creative licence to be bold in their fashion choices, to indulge in the best Australia has to offer in food and wine and, of course enjoy the stellar entertainment line-up!”

VRC Chairman Neil Wilson said the club was delighted to welcome Delta Goodrem back as an ambassador in 2022.

“Delta Goodrem is the perfect ambassador for the Melbourne Cup Carnival. She has always been a passionate supporter of Australia’s major events, from fashion to sport, and we’re grateful to call her a part of our VRC family,” Mr Wilson said.

“Delta’s Lexus Melbourne Cup Day performances in 2020 and 2021 were celebrated and gave joy to an audience of more than 750 million people around Australia and across the globe who tuned in for ‘the race that stops a nation’™. With crowds returning in big numbers this Cup Week, we are excited to welcome Delta back to Flemington to be part of the Lexus Melbourne Cup Day celebrations.          

“The 2022 Melbourne Cup Carnival will bring a fresh look and feel to Flemington for enthusiastic race-goers to experience a glorious day-out with friends and family. We can’t wait to see Headquarters buzzing with life and laughter once again and to welcome people back with open arms, to celebrate everything they treasure about Cup Week and so much more.”

The Melbourne Cup Carnival is traditionally one of Victoria’s biggest sporting and cultural events, attracting up to 300,000 racegoers to Flemington across the four days and generating over $430 million for the Victorian economy each year.

The 2022 Melbourne Cup Carnival commences with Penfolds Victoria Derby Day on Saturday 29 October, followed by Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 1 November, Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday 3 November and TAB Champions Stakes Day on Saturday 5 November.
