VRC Members guide to the ultimate New Year’s Eve Race Day and Party​

Experience New Year’s Eve for the first time at Flemington. From a thrilling race card through to the countdown to 2026, there will be action and entertainment at every moment. ​

Your favourite locations across Flemington will be in action from gates open at 3:00PM, including:​

  • G.H. Mumm Champagne Bar
  • Members Bar
  • Furlong Bar
  • The Roof Garden
  • The Bluegrass Bar
  • The Members Lawn
  • The Club Stand Lobby

Until gates close

Welcome the New Year at Flemington from 6:30PM onwards in these designated 2026 countdown locations:​

  • Neon Jungle in The Roof Garden
  • Piano Bar in The Byerley
  • Champagne Disco in the G.H. Mumm Champagne Bar
  • DJ's Live on The Front Lawn

Racing

The racing program kicks off at 3:40pm with an eight-race twilight card highlighted by the $175,000 Listed Bagot Handicap (2800m) - first run in 1884 - and the $175,000 Listed Kensington Stakes (1400m), marking a shift from the traditional New Year's Day program.

Jockeys will race in cutting-edge amber-lens goggles from Shore Goggles, purpose-built to enhance contrast and sharpen depth perception as light conditions shift during twilight racing.​

Members Summer Dress Code

Members dress regulations will apply within the Members Enclosure.

After the last race, the dedicated party and countdown venues across the Members Enclosure will continue with Members Enclosure dress regulations for summer. Of course, you are welcome to add a little extra as New Year's Eve is the perfect opportunity to add some sparkle or colour to your race day outfit!

Getting In and Getting Home

Getting to Flemington

Departing Flinders Street Station

2:39 PM - 5:44 PM Stopping North Melbourne through to Flemington Racecourse.

Departing Southern Cross Station

7:16 PM - 10:25 PM Stopping North Melbourne through to Flemington Racecourse.

Getting Home

6:54 PM - 1:20 AM: Trains will depart Flemington, stopping North Melbourne through to Southern Cross Station, leaving approximately every 30 minutes.

The first train to depart after the 9.30pm fireworks will be at 9.59pm, with trains departing approximately every 30 minutes until 11pm.

After the midnight fireworks trains will depart Flemington at 12:25am, 12:52am and 1:20am.
