Flemington to host a stable tour ahead of Spring Classics Preview Day

18 September 2025 Written by VRC

The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) will host the annual Spring Classics Preview Day this Sunday 21 September with the club opening its doors to the local community and general public for an exclusive behind the scenes Flemington Stables Tour.

Home to more than 600 horses and some of Australia’s top trainers, Flemington is a hive of equine excellence, offering a rare glimpse into the beating heart of it all.

Ahead of the race day, Flemington trainers including Chris Waller, Gai Waterhouse AO, and Danny O’Brien will open their stable doors to the public from 9:30am. The tour is free to attend with a host of activities including an opportunity to meet some of the sports past champions from Living Legends, pony rides and complimentary coffee and crepes.

Star attractions will include reigning Australian horse of the Year, Via Sistina and a host of Lexus Melbourne Cup hopefuls including Sir Delius.

With the Melbourne Cup Carnival just around the corner, the race meeting provides a strong guide of what horses to follow over the carnival with ballot exemption into the Group 1 Howden Victoria Derby (2500m) and Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on offer.

The Howden Victoria Derby Preview (1800m) will see a strong group of colts and geldings, including Poor Ol' Johny Ray for Derby-winning trainer and AFL Premiership winning coach Denis Pagan who made history in 2020 with Johnny Get Angry.

In the Crown Oaks Preview (1800m), training partners Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are looking to qualify their filly, Koibito.

Gates open at 1:00pm ahead of race 1 at 1:25pm with General Admission tickets available for $20 per person. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit vrc.com.au.

The next race day at Flemington will be TAB Turnbull Stakes Day on Saturday 4 October. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit vrc.com.au.

Any media who wish to attend the Flemington Stables Tour, please contact Maggie Payne before end of day Friday 19 September.
