Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour Reaches the halfway mark

The 2022 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour is officially over halfway through its whirlwind four-month long journey, which will see the Cup visit 33 national and international destinations before returning home to Flemington for the first Tuesday in November.

So far, the iconic trophy has travelled to 23 destinations including making the journey overseas to both Cambridge and Auckland in New Zealand as travelling to Singapore.

The tour kicked off in mid-July in regional New South Wales where the VRC Tour team met local Junee boy Joel Everingham who can name every Melbourne Cup winner from 1960 as well as the Cup Tour team on the road making front page of the Temora Independent for their daily bakery visits!

After two long years the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour returned to Western Australia alongside VRC Chief Executive Officer, Steve Rosich where it captured the attention of locals on a six-day tour that kicked off with a meet and greet with Fremantle Captain, Nat Fyfe before heading to the iconic Pilbara region to attend the Newman Cup.

This year we also had three-time Melbourne Cup-winning jockey, Glen Boss join the tour for the first time accompanying the $275,000 trophy to both Adelaide and Wallaroo in South Australia as well as Charters Towers in Queensland.

While in Queensland the tour stopped in at Evolution Mining's Ernest Henry mine where the Cup and team went 1km underground alongside 2001 Melbourne Cup-winning trainer, Sheila Laxon to visit local miners which saw the tour make page 5 of The Australian! The Cup's visit to Cloncurry again made headlines when it met two local Cloncurry boys, Arlo and Seth whose dream is to become bull riders.

So far, the Cup has visited 12 of the 24 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour National Sweep Destinations, which sees 24 rural and regional tour destinations across Australia allocated a barrier for the Lexus Melbourne Cup, with the town which draws the barrier of the Cup-winning horse presented with a cash prize of $50,000 to be contributed to a nominated charity for a local community initiative.

The Cup is currently in Allora, Queensland with Ray Dummett and dual Melbourne Cup-winning jockey, John Letts.
