Revelare’s road to the Cup

The five-year-old gelding booked his place in the Cup by winning the Lexus Archer Stakes in September, confirming his staying quality and giving connections a “golden ticket” into Flemington’s famous first Tuesday in November.

Hickmott recalls seeing Revelare as a yearling and immediately sensing his potential.

“He just had stayer written all over him,” he says.

That judgment has proven correct – the gelding is unbeaten at Flemington and has an excellent record over 2000 metres and beyond. “He’s been very dynamic in what he’s shown us thus far, which you need to be going into the Melbourne Cup,” Hickmott said. 

For Hickmott, he dares to dream of a third trophy on his mantlepiece. “You’ve just got to enjoy the celebrations and enjoy people’s joy,” he reflects. “That’s the main thing I get out of it.”
