Ricky and Rianna Ponting join Flemington Racing Spectacular celebrations

3 March 2023 Written by VRC

The Victoria Racing Club welcome former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting and his wife Rianna Ponting as 2023 Flemington Racing Spectacular Ambassadors.

Ricky and Rianna will attend the first race day of the Flemington Racing Spectacular, Australian Guineas Day this Saturday 4 March with their three children Emmy (14), Matisse (12) and Fletcher (9).

The Pontings have a long standing involvement with the racing industry, having owned many horses over the years including Medinah with Flemington trainer Danny O’Brien.

The Pontings said they were excited to soak up all of the family fun at the Flemington Racing Spectacular with their children.

“We love the racing industry and its ability to bring so many people together. The Flemington Racing Spectacular is a great event that has a special atmosphere on track that complements watching some of the country’s best racehorses,” Ricky said.

“We can’t wait to come along to this year’s Flemington Racing Spectacular with the family and enjoy all of the family-friendly activities, have something to eat and see the exciting racing live.”

VRC Chief Executive Officer Steve Rosich said the club was delighted to welcome the Ponting family to Flemington this Saturday for the first day of the Flemington Racing Spectacular.

“We look forward to having Ricky, Rianna and their three children on track this weekend for Australian Guineas Day. The Pontings have always held a rich connection to Flemington and racing through their ownership experience and regular race day attendance,” Mr Rosich said.

“Ricky exemplifies world class, so we’re delighted to host him and his family for a day of exceptional food, wine and racing, along with thousands of VRC members and guests.”

Australian Guineas Day will be the perfect opener for the Flemington Racing Spectacular, featuring stirring Group 1 action on the track and epic entertainment off it.

The country’s best three-year-old milers will aim to join a star-studded honour roll in the $1 million Group 1 Australian Guineas, with two-time Group 1 winner Jacquinot heading the market for trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr.

Off the track, the Flemington Fareground will be the perfect spot to spend the day and see The Elms transformed into an outdoor extravaganza featuring some of Melbourne’s yummiest food and beverage pop ups as well as live entertainment.

There will also be plenty of fun for families, with children given the opportunity to go Into The Wild, including getting up close and personal with some native Australian animals as part of an interactive learning experience from the Wild Action Zoo team.

The VRC’s charity partner on Australian Guineas Day will be Child and Racehorse Movement (CARM).  CARM will come to life with a special activation in the Flemington Fareground which will provide a calm place for children to come and connect with miniature ponies throughout the day.

Gates open at 10.35am with Race 1 at 12.35pm and the last race at 5.40pm.

General Admission tickets are $25 per person and more information on ticketing for Australian Guineas Day can be found at Ticketmaster

The Flemington Racing Spectacular continues throughout March with two more fantastic race days including Super Saturday on Saturday 11 March and TAB Australian Cup Day on Saturday 25 March.
