I Am Unstoppable gears up for the Black Caviar Lightning

16 February 2024 Written by VRC

After an impressive trial last week, where he showcased his abilities against some formidable competition, there’s a sense of confidence as I Am Unstoppable gears up for the Black Caviar Lightning this Saturday.

Lucy Yeomans and her co-trainer, Lloyd Kennewell are excited about the colt’s chances this weekend. His preparation has been meticulous, with careful consideration given to his physical and mental condition.

“I'm very pleased with how he jumped out last week, obviously, against some fast horses and we thought he was going as good as any of them. Jamie (Kah) got off and gave him a glowing report. He really bounced through that trial in great order, very fresh and well, and sound and eating well. We think we’ve got him pretty spot on, hopefully,” said Yeomans.

Yeomans has been with Kennewell for just over six months, after a decade working her way up to assistant trainer at Ciaron Maher Racing. Settled in her new training partnership, she praises the dedicated team at the Cranbourne stables, where they have 30 boxes.

“We're a very small team. Lloyd and I are very lucky. We’ve got great staff behind us. To have a horse of I Am Unstoppable’s calibre is very exciting, and the team will be either at the races or watching on the TV on Saturday, that’s for sure.”

As I Am Unstoppable continues to mature and improve, Yeomans notes the progress he has made since last season, both physically and mentally. Joking that the colt has “gone from a boy to a man”, Yeomans says that he looks more athletic, his coat is the best it's ever been and he's moving as well as ever. While his temperament is the same – “he’s always been very straightforward” – physically, he’s much fitter.

The decision to target races at Flemington reflects the team’s confidence in I Am Unstoppable’s ability to excel on straight tracks.

While the competition, especially Imperatriz, presents a formidable challenge, they can’t wait to see what he does up that Flemington straight this weekend.

Join us in celebrating the legacy of the great Black Caviar whose stellar career consisted of 25 undefeated races. Some of the world’s fastest horses will be lining up in the $1,000,000 Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m), named in the legendary mare’s honour.
